The Motorcycle Trials Club of Queensland (MTQ) ran a brilliant 2025 Hell Team TRS & Integrated Products Australian Trials Championship last weekend at Meringandan, and it was a hit with all comers.
One-hundred and sixty-two riders including minders (145 competitors) took part in the event, with a significant contingent coming from as far away as Western Australia.
Approximately 500 spectators took in the spectacle of Australia’s best trials competitors tackling the boulder-strewn course north of Toowoomba. This came partly, from the motorcycle-friendly Channel 7 Toowoomba, who are always quick to support motorcycle competition, and gave the event a big, mid-week polish on its nightly news.
Queenslanders did particularly well at the event, with a big bag of podium finishers who included:
Sam Rogers 3rd – T2 class
Josh Lewis 1st – T3 class
Mitch Teale 1st – T3 youth class
Mitch Green 2nd, Boyd Wilcox 3rd – T3 masters 35+ class
Dan Atkinson 1st, Jake Farnham 2nd, Ryan Farrell 3rd – T4 class
Danny Green 2nd – T4 veterans 40-55 class
Andrew McDonald-Smith 1st, Aki Nagao 2nd, T4 vet 55+ class
Nicole Casey 2nd, Nina Chadwick 3rd – T4 Women’s class
Greg McLennan 1st, Jordan Gollagher 2nd, Tony Bax 3rd – Classic Pre-65 class
Attila Sinkovics 2nd, Max McQuade 3rd – T5 boys’ class 7-13
Peter McWilliams 2nd – T5 open (support) class
MA Board Member Roy Chamberlain also attended the event, and gave it a glowing assessment. “I think they did a fantastic job,” he said. “It was well organised and very professionally run, but still had that social-type discourse going on everywhere.
“The course was great, and the competitors I talked to liked it. It was certainly up to national standards. There were testing sections for the top guys and it was great to see families running around with their kids, and people 60+ on the latest gear and senior guys on older bikes. In fact, there was a remarkable range of competitors and bikes, which I thought it was great.
“And coming from Canberra, like I do, where it’s -5, it was a welcome escape from the cold! There were no complaints – which was rare for a group of motorcyclists,” he laughed, “and there was good trade representation and displays. I really couldn’t fault the event!
Secretary of host club MTQ, Mike Bray was exhausted, but proud of a job the club had done very well.
“It was great,” he said. “The weather was sunny both days, and 28 of our 30 sections were brand new areas we’d never ridden on before. We had to triple our spectator car parking once the event was underway, and our 150 spare programs all got taken!
“We also had over 30 observers to come and do the scoring, so I’d like to extend a heartfelt thank you to them.
“It was great to see Roy Chamberlain from MA come up, and Russell Bentley from MQ came out on Saturday, it’s just a shame the Brisbane Olympic committee was in Switzerland!” he said of the current interest in getting trials into the Brisbane Olympics as a demonstration sport.
“The work beforehand has been phenomenal – one day we had 30 people working, and 15 people on weed-eaters opening up the sections. It was a massive club effort of which everyone can be proud!”
