So you’ve got an injury suspension. But you’re better now. What do you do?
Well, that depends if there’s a concussion involved.
Medical (no concussion) –
- You need a doctor’s certificate that specifically states that you are fit to participate in motorcycle sport. Take a pic of it with your phone.
- Go into your Ridernet profile and click on your name and then “My Profile”. Among the green tiles you’ll see “Suspensions”. Click that, press edit, and upload your image to there.
- Ridernet will then notify us, and if you’ve followed those steps correctly, some time in the next 48 hours you’ll get an approval email from us, and the red “currently suspended” will disappear from your profile.
- If you’re really in a hurry to get your clearance through, ring and ask (nicely) about a special clearance, and we’ll try our best to get you across the line.
Concussion –
The seriousness of concussion is being better understood daily, which is why the process of return is different and more detailed. Injured riders are emailed the steps, but basically it looks like this:
- MA’s Medical Concussion Policy is activated the moment the nature of the injury/illness is identified on the Injury Report Form as concussion, irrespective of its severity or whether it is considered a “suspected” concussion. Any type of reported concussion is required to follow the MA Return to Sport Framework.
- The minimum period of exclusion for an Adult (19 years and over) is 10 days from diagnosis, including the day of the incident (permitted to return to sport on the 11th day).
The minimum period of exclusion for a Child (18 years and younger) is 20 days from diagnosis, including the day of the incident (permitted to return to sport on the 21st day). - The form you will need to upload to achieve clearance from any type of concussion is called the RETURN TO SPORT MEDICAL FORM FOLLOWING CONCUSSION. This is a concussion-specific type of medical form that must be completed by a Medical Practitioner: A medical doctor qualified and registered to practice in Australia with the post nominal MBBS or MD. This includes a GP, emergency physician, sports physician, neurologist, or any other medical doctor who has the experience to be comfortable completing the form.
- Once you have your form, upload it using the steps described in the medical section.
*The concussion clearance cannot be completed by a physiotherapist, nurse, osteopath, chiropractor or non-medical doctor
