With the last droplets of champagne probably still drying on the trophy she won at the ProMX finale last weekend at Queensland Moto Park, freshly-crowned Aussie Women’s Champ Charli Cannon spoke to MQ Media from the airport as she prepared to jet out to the US for her next challenge – to complete the US WMX series.
Coming out of its summer break, the US series second half takes place over three consecutive and grueling weeks, with races at Iron Man (Indiana) this weekend, Unadilla (New York) and Budds Creek (Maryland).
“I’m not sure what to expect over there,” said the 20-year-old from Maroochy River. “I’m feeling good but honestly I’m still not 100% yet. The finger’s not really right and realistically it won’t be for a while yet. It wasn’t that simple a recovery because it was quite a bad injury, so I’m still dealing with limited movement and no strength. It’s been a case of having to adapt, but other than that everything is good and I’m healthy. I’m going with the whole team this time so everything feels more like home.”
The fact that Cannon isn’t yet 100% is an ominous sign for her opponents, after she just clinched her fourth consecutive Aussie Women’s MX Championship, by winning every single race in the championship.
Still, she’s not getting ahead of the game approaching three races on foreign tracks.
“The goal for these last three is to win as many as I can and try to crawl my way back up the points towards the championship.”
We wish her the very best of racer luck!
