Today’s Volunteer in Focus is Moriah Green, who passionately supports the sport of motocross at Chinchilla, a town of less than 10,000 people, some three-and-a-half hours west of Brisbane.
Moriah is Event Secretary and PR person for the Chinchilla Motocross Club, as well as Mum to two young motocross riders and partner to an ex-racer.
Let’s find out a bit about her.
What’s your current volunteer position in motorcycle sport?
My current role in the Chinchilla Motocross club sees me as the Event Secretary and Public Relations person for the club. I am the face behind the messages on social media.
How did you come to find yourself there?
I have spent a couple of years involved in the Chinchilla Motocross Club. As a motocross family of 4, we have made our way around to many clubs/tracks between the coast and on the western downs. My husband used to race but since we had our children, we have been focusing on creating that love of the sport in them. My Son is ready to start racing anytime now and we are so excited for that. Our daughter likes to take the tracks at her own pace.
What do you love about it?
I am passionate about being involved in a club where everyone who attends has a safe and enjoyable place to be able to practice the sport. I love being involved and helping ignite the passion in our riders.
Can you tell us a little that people might not know about your club?
Chinchilla is a little place that not a lot of people may know about. It’s the home of the Big Melon and the famous Melon Festival, that offers many great things to do in the area. Chinchilla motocross hosts a calendar full of exciting events with hopes of bringing more variety. We love to be involved in the community and bring awareness to our club and sport.
Our track is situated 20 minutes east of Chinchilla, with full facilities to be able to free camp. You can find our club on Facebook and Instagram.
You’ve shown a passion for cross-promoting with your nearest club, Dalby. Can you tell us what prompted that/what the plan is there?
I have a passion for seeing our club succeed, but also for helping out our neighbouring clubs. We are currently trying to bring more riders to the area by hosting events that include multiple clubs. By doing this we hope to see our small clubs survive and thrive with attracting more members and committee members.
Like with any club it’s hard to get committee members /volunteers/ fresh faces but through showing what’s possible, and with the awesome events we host, we hope to get more and more people excited about what we do.
