The Road Racing of Association will host its fifth Rising Sun Townsville Tourist Trophy on August 28 – 30.
Last year we had a great turnout for the event with over 80 entries, including juniors, seniors, historics and sidecars from as far south as Victoria. This year, those interstate riders will be bringing their friends!
In 2015 our TT event is hosting the inaugural Queensland Short Course Road Race Championships and the Queensland Short Course Historic Road Race Championships.
The QSCRRC will have classes such as Lites, GP125/Moto3, Production 250/300 Classes, Junior Road Race, Formula 3 and of course the Sidecars. The QSCHRRC will see races of Solo’s from P2 Junior to P6 Senior & P3 to P5 Sidecars. With 49 races over the weekend, it’s going to be action packed.
As the sun sets on Saturday afternoon we have the Le Mans start for the one hour team endurance event where 2-3 riders with two bikes battle it out for the overall win and their class placings. With rider changes and hard fought battles amongst the different classes of bikes, we finish the race under the lights.
That then leads us to the Le Mans start Sidecar Novelty Race. This is a light hearted event under the lights where fun costumes are worn. Last year we had Batman and Robin giving chase to Bananas in Pyjamas...It was a sight to see!
We have our very own Jack Miller sponsoring the QSCRRC GP125/Moto3. Jack started his road racing with us here in the Junior Corporate challenge (where a bike is loaned to a Junior rider giving them an opportunity to try the sport) and is happy to be able to support the club.
The RRAT is very proud of our TT event and we get great support from far and wide. New friendships are made, help is always on hand and there are many laughs, making for great memories. It has in fact been hailed as the ‘best little meeting in Australia’.
