Who is your MA Performer of the Year?
December 20, 2011

The race for the 2011 MA Performer of the Year is reaching the final lap with Facebook, Twitter and email messages of support to the many riders considered to be the stand out Motorcycle Sport rider of the year.

Along with the likes and comments on the MA Facebook Page, Tweets and mentions on the MA Twitter feed, we have received a host of emails in support of some of the best Aussie riders in 2011.

He is a selection of emails we have received from fans of our Aussie stars!

I say yes, absolutely Jed Metcher is MA performer of the Year!

I spoke with Jed ahead of the 2009 season, but we had already committed to fellow Aussie Gareth Jones, so we told Jed to stay in contact and in 2010 Jed was riding next to Gareth in the IDM German Superbike Championship.

Fellow Aussie Karl Muggeridge told me he believes Jed has the potential to be a very good 600 rider and also I agreed with him.

I pushed him also to go for the last round WSBK at Magny-Cours in the Superstock 600 class. At the time Jed wasn’t keen to do, but I’m so happy that I pushed him to do it.

It was the start of a brilliant run of winning races and podiums.

Everybody knows what a great year he had in winning the 2011 European Superstock 600 Championship, recording 7 podiums in total and a fantastic championship win in his first complete season in the WSBK Paddock!

Still I am surprised how good Jed's attitude is. He is always focused and looking forward, a strong mentality to have.

Another rising star from Australia and one of the best “Kangaroos” I've imported to Europe so far.

I say Yes, Jed Metcher is the MA Performer of the Year!

I would like to start by congratulating Reed, Metcalfe and Moss for their outstanding performance at Motocross of Nations, coming 3rd against a top class field is an amazing result.

Well done boys!

However, my vote for the MA Performer of the Year would go to Chad Reed.
What an outstanding athlete is he, coming second in the FIM-AMA Supercross World Championship and third in the AMA Pro Motocross Championship is a fantastic result for Chad with very little factory support.

He has surprised a lot of people, what a great rider and a great guy he is, as a 62-year-old Vintage Motocross rider, I am massive, massive fan of Chad!

Alain Laidlaw

From the age of 13 this kid has been a gun. He has won Motocross, Arenacross and Stadiumcross races as well as winning Road Racing events.

To watch him in Supermoto is unreal!

He must rate as one of the Nation’s most versatile riders bar none.

He gets my vote.

Luke Gaisford is my choice for MA Performer of the Year.
Privateer Luke Gaisford at 20 years of age pays for all of his own racing, unlike some of his high-profile competitors and also the other nominees.

Luke Gaisford won the Australian Quad MX Championships in 2011 and was 2nd in 2010 by 1 point.

He also won the gruelling six-round Western Australian Quad MX Championship in 2010 and 2011, in addition to highest Profile Open event in Australia “The King of the Cross, Quad of the Cross”, which Luke has won twice.

Luke was a nominee in the Rockingham Sportstar of the Year and a nominee in the WA Sports Federation Senior Sportstar of the Year and winner of the Motorcycling WA Sportsperson of the year for outstanding achievement for a rider or official.

Luke is Not Chad Reed or Casey Stoner; he is a self-funded racer.
