2006
Motorcycling Queensland Awards Night

More
than 340 people converged on The Forecourt area of the
Workshops Rail Museum, North Ipswich, on Saturday 2nd December
2006 to acknowledge Queensland's 2006 State, National and
International motorcycle champions at Motorcycling Queensland's
annual Awards Night.
Recently
crowned 2006 World FIM Speedway Champion, and adopted Queenslander
- Jason Crump, was in attendance on the night, and,
as well as obliging with a short question and answer interview
about his outstanding year, was also kind enough to assist
with some junior award presentations.
We
couldnt work out who was more thrilled - the young awards
recipients getting to shake the World Champions hand, or
some of the Mums and Dads who crowded around the presentation
area to get a prized photo of their young champion with
the multiple World Champion.
Jason
is back in Australia enjoying some well earned R & R,
before heaing back to his 'other' home to no doubt defend
his World Championship. Prior to heading back overseas
Jason will compete in the 2007 Australian Speedway Motorcycle
Championships, scheduled for Janaury 2007.
Ipswich
Mayor, and Motorcycling Queensland Patron Paul Pisasale also
attended the night and was officially acknowledge for his
contribution to the organisation in this role.
A
quick scan around the packed room revealed other luminaries
in attendance, including: 2006 Speedway Sidecar (Gold Trophy)
winners Scott Christopher & Trent Koppe, 2006
Pro Open National Supercross and Queensland State Pro Open
& Pro Lites Motocross Champion - Daniel Reardon,
the Pro E2 & Outright National Off Road Series champion
- AJ Roberts, 8 times National Moto-Trials Sidecar
champions - Justin Gough & Maurice Blanchard,
and S1 Supermoto National champion - Adam Cini, to
name just a few.
Some
of the 'young guns' in attendance, who will are either
currently challenging, or will shortly be challenging the
more established stars included - Todd Waters (Motocross), Mitchel
Davey & Josh Grajczonek (Dirt Track / Speedway), Darcy
Ward (Dirt Track & Speedway).
Tamara
Gray, undoubtably Australia's top female
motocrosser, told the audience how a compressed spine,
fused vertabrae, an extended hospital stay wasn't going
to stand in her way of claiming the Motocross Senior
Lites State Title and the female number 1 Motocross
plate.
Some
of the other notable awards winner's on the night included:
Council
Volunteer of the Year - Chris Lucas
Junior Achiever of the Year - Darcy Ward
Club of the Year - Rockhampton & Districts Motocross
Club
Most Improved Club of the Year - Northern Districts Enduro
& Trials Club
20 Years Officials Service - Gregg Smith
Coach of the Year - Ben Schodel
The
full 2006 Motorcycling Queensland Honor Roll can be viewed
from here.
Our
thanks go to all of those who attended the night and made
it so successful, and in particular - Paul Curtis and Brad
McKewen (channel 10) who expertly MC'd the night, Peter & Deseree
Coward for the photography, and the Blues Doctors and Jack
Field's Freestyle Show for providing additional entertainment.
See
you all at next year's awards night...
