Becoming a coach


Motorcycling Queensland conducts accredited coach training programs to assist those interested in becomming a licenced coach.

Club Coach

How to become:

Successfully complete the Level 1 'Practical motorcycle sport day' of the Level 1 Coaching Course.

This course is one day (approximately 8 hours) and is entirely practically based. It is conducted on-site at a motorcycling track.

The contents of this courses is based on the delivery of the 'Kick Start' Junior Coaching Program and Assessment, and how to assess riders undertaking this program.

Assessment for this course is practically based and involves attendees presenting a topic or topics to the group on one or more of the 12 modules of the 'Kick Start' Junior Coaching Program.

There is no charge to attend the 'Club' coach course.

nb: Club coach icences will only be issued to those persons who have a current Blue Card.


Types of responsibilities:

Licencd 'Club' coaches can undertake the following responsibilities:

*Conduct the 'Kick Start' Junior Coaching Program practical & theory tests for up to a maximum of 6 riders for first time junior competition licence applicants attempting competency.

*Assist Level 1 coaches.

*Assist Level 2 coaches.

Level 1 Coach

How to become:

Requires successful completion of the Level 1 Coaching Course (2 days, approximately 16 hours in duration).

Day 1 of this course doubles as the 'Club' coach course and is entirely practically based. It is conducted on-site at a motorcycling track.

This day is centered around the delivery of the 'Kick Start' Junior Coaching Program, and how to assess riders undertaking this program for competency.

There is a practical assessment undertaken on Day 1 which involves attendees presenting a topic or topics to the group on one or more of the 12 modules of the 'Kick Start' Junior Coaching Program.

Day 2 of the Level 1 Coaching Course involves undertaking the Level 1 General Principles of Coaching Course, and covers the general theory and principles of becomming a coach.

There is a multiple choice examination conducted at the end of this Day 2, that attendees must successfully pass to be deemed competent.

Prior to being issued with a Level 1 coaches licence, applicants must also provide proof that they have undertaken a minimum of 20 hours practical motorcycle coaching experience.

nb: Level 1 coaches licences will only be issued to those persons who have a current Blue Card.


Types of responsibilities:

Level 1 licenced coaches can undertake the following responsibilities:

*Conduct the 'Kick Start' Junior Coaching Program practical & theory tests for up to a maximum of 6 riders for first time junior competition licence applicants attempting competency.

*Conduct rider competency assessments for 'first time' Senior National, Recreational and Nipper licence applicants.

*Conduct permitted coaching for up to a maximum of 6 riders at any one time, and and additional of 6 for every extra Level 1 licenced coach in attendance.

*Supervise permitted practice days in accordance with the Motorcycling Queensland Practice Guidelines.

*Assist Level 2 coaches.

Level 2 Coach

How to become:

Successfully complete the Level 2 General Principles of Coaching Course. More information on Recognised Training Providers who offer this course is available by contacing the Motorcycling Queensland Development Officer on p: (07) 3281-2255.

Successfully complete the Level 2 'practical' Coaching Course.

Motorcycling Australia conducts at least one Level 2 'practical' Coaching Course (4 day live-in course) at the Australian Institute of Sport (Canberra) annually.

More information on the Level 2 'practical' Coaching Course is avaialble by contacing the Motorcycling Queensland Development Officer on (07) 3281-2255, or by contacting Motorcycling Australia on (03) 9684-0500.

Pre-requisates for acceptance into the Level 2 'practical' Coaching Course are:

*Have held a Level 1 coaches licence for a minimum of 12 months.

*Provide proof of a minimum of 60 hours practical coaching experience, at least 10 hours of which must be with a current Level 2 licenced coach.

nb: Level 2 coaches licences will only be issued to those persons who have a current Blue Card.


Types of responsibilities:

Level 2 licenced coaches can undertake the following responsibilities:

*Conduct the 'Kick Start' Junior Coaching Program practical & theory tests for up to a maximum of 6 riders for first time junior competition licence applicants attempting competency.

*Conduct rider competency assessments for 'first time' Senior National, Recreational and Nipper licence applicants.

*Conduct permitted coaching for up to a maximum of 15 riders at any one time, and and additional of 10 for every extra Level 1 licenced coach in attendance.

*Supervise permitted practice days in accordance with the Motorcycling Queensland Practice Guidelines.

*With approval from the Motorcycling Queensland Coaching Committee can conduct advanced licencing testing - Supercross, Freestyle, Road Bike Freestyle, etc.

*Conduct Elite Training Camps on behalf of Motorcycling Queensland.
