Motorcycling Queensland is pleased to announce details regarding the 2017 Women on Wheels (WoW) Motocross Series.
Women on Wheels (WoW) is the over-arching name that Motorcycling Queensland has registered to ‘brand’ all of our female / women specific in motorcycle sport and recreation activities for 2017 and beyond.
As well as the WoW Motocross Interclub Series, some of the other activities that will be branded under this name are: WoW Garage Nights, WoW Coaching courses / clinics, Queensland Womens Week, Womens leadership and networking workshops, and much more.
About the 2017 WoW MX Interclub Series
In 2017, as part of Motorcycling Queensland’s ongoing commitment to supporting the development of more females involved in the sport, we will be promoting a new motocross series specifically targeting females in the sport.
The Series will be called the WoW Motocross Interclub Series, and is scheduled to run over 4 rounds, as follows:
Round 1 – Rockhampton, 25/26 March - Postponed – Date to be confirmed
Round 2 – Ingham, 3/4 June
Round 3 – Mundubbera, 12/13 August
Round 4 – Kilcoy, 30 Sept / 1 October (Queens birthday long weekend / school holidays)
Each round of the series will be two-days in length.
nb: participation in the WoW Motocross Interclub Series is not a pre-requisate to entering to ride at the 2017 Queensland Junior & Senior Female Motocross Championships to be held in Rockhampton on the weekend 29/30 July.
Day 1 (Saturday) of each WoW round will offer targeted, specialised female coaching, including bike maintenance, bike prep, track walk and talk activities at the track that participants will be racing at the following day.
For these Saturday coaching sessions, Motorcycling Queensland is pleased to announce that Jemma Wilson (4 x ISDE World Champion) will act as lead coach at these sessions, and to be supported by other local area coaching assistants. Female riders will be able to participate in these coaching sessions free of charge (included as part of entry fee), with other places available for male riders on a pay per session basis.
Day 2 (Sunday) of the event will offer a variety of women’s only racing (women’s only classes) as well as male support classes.
The focus of this Series will be on fun, development and participation, specifically targeting females (junior and senior).
The WoW Motocross Interclub Series will also be used as an opportunity to mentor and train more female officials in the sport, with a number of Queensland’s highly credentialed officials already committing to the Series.
Motorcycling Queensland will be specifically and strategically involved in the development, promotion and running of this Series to ensure its success.
