The second round of the 2015 FIM Asia Road Racing Championship was held in Indonesia over the weekend.
Queensland’s own Broc Pearson was at the event and gave the following recap:
Race One I scored a very strong start and was around seventh into the first turn but I was pushed wide on the exit and relegated to 13th, just behind Hasroy Osman. The first 11-riders started to form a group as Hasroy and I battled it out for 12th position.
On the last lap, final corner, I was patient and thought I would wait until the straight to get the slipstream on Hasroy. Half way through the final corner I noticed Koko Tadachi had taken a fall which put me into 11th. I was then able to get a clean run out of the final corner to slipstream Hasroy for 10th position over the line. I was so happy with my performance as my goal was top 10 which I had just accomplished while Muklada was once again on top, closely followed by Yusuke Nakamura and Hafiz Azman.
The next day I planned to improve my results again. On Sunday we had one warm up session before our race which I used to find some faster lines and tried to run with a few faster guys. Race two I was off to another great start but unfortunately coming into turn six on the first lap, I was about 9th position when one of the riders locked up his rear and hit me off line, I wasn’t able to come back on line until there was enough room for me to push in which was 17th position.
Lap by lap I pulled back some time, made many passes and ended up making my way to 13th with a final close pass on the finish line, taking the position by 0.004 at the finish line. Yusuke Nakamura, Muklada Sarapeuch and Hiroki Nakamura rounded were the top three finishers.
It was a great weekend of enjoyable riding and many things learnt that I must go home and work on. I will go back to Australia, train harder, study Suzuka in preparation for round three and then I will come back stronger.
