I just finished the weekend down in Victoria at rounds three and four of the Australian Off Road Championships (AORC).
The last couple of months have been flat out racing for me, the first being AORC and combined QLD Championship in Kilkivan, QLD.
The event was a sprint format which is my favourite type of racing. I was really happy with the way I rode at the first round coming home with 3rd outright and 2nd in E2 on the first day, and 6th outright and 4th in E2 on the Sunday.
I also won the QLD state round. I really enjoyed the event and the tracks, so hats off to Frank Kraan and his crew for hosting an awesome event.
I was invited to the Transmoto 12 hour this year and it was a blast. We had a four rider Husqvarna team consisting of Scott Keegan, Damian Smith, Christian Horwood and myself, and we raced from 6:30am to 6:30pm. I have to say it was one of the best day’s racing I have ever had and we won the race with a nice big lead.
Last weekend I had the second round of the QLD 2 Day Championship. It was held at Mount Perry west of Rockhampton, so a 7 hour drive for me. It was an extremely hard race- congrats to all the competitors, especially the juniors, who got around the tracks and finished the days. I ended up with the win in front of PD Allen and Adam Giles who were fighting hard for it all weekend.
As I write this I am sitting at Melbourne airport waiting for a plane home from the last two rounds of the AORC. The weekend was a cross country/sprint format, my first cross country for the year and I had a heap of fun racing it. I had a pretty bad jump off the start but ended up going from around 15th to 5th outright and 2nd in class. I'm really happy with my fitness at the moment and I just have to work a little bit more on starts.
Round 4 didn't go my way. I had two crashes in the first lap out and that put me right back in the outrights, I found it hard to get a flow all day and ended up with a 9th outright and 3rd in E2.
After a big weekend racing I'm going to have a few days off the bike and go surfing.
Coming up in two weeks, I have the first round of the Husqvarna Sprint Series to be held at Conondale. I am always really keen to race this venue so I am looking forward to it.
If you’re thinking about going racing soon, come along and have a great day at an awesome track.
Until next time, cheers.
