The revs will rise to a crescendo and the dirt clods will fly like bullets as round 4 of the Airoh Sunshine State Motocross Series explodes into life at Kilcoy this weekend (11th and 12th May).
Motocross fans can expect plenty of fireworks as the popular regional series enters its business end, with 10 junior and 9 senior classes heading towards their respective conclusions.
Saturday’s junior program sees some of the fastest Australian juniors in the business – while Sunday showcases our senior riders. With the series at the half-way mark this is a chance for riders to gain some valuable points towards end of series awards.
Preparation is everything when it comes to serving up a motocross track that will yield dramatic racing, and the secret to Kilcoy’s popularity is the club’s use of local farmers to tease their black soil into a perfect state of readiness.
In the Shell Advance QMX1 class Kaleb Barham (Husqvarna) leads the charge sitting in first place on 272 points, closely followed by Southside Auto Auctions rider Mason Rowe (KTM) on 265 points with Joel Rizzo (KTM) on 248 points.
In the Southside Auto Auctions QMX2 class Barham leads with 274 points (doing double duties) followed by Airoh rider Joel Evans (Husqvarna) on 263 with Jace Cosford (Yamaha) nipping at his heals on 260 points.
In the Airoh Helmets Women’s Unlimited class, the pitched battle between senior rookie Tahlia Drew and defending champion Chelsea Carter will take on extra significance, as local Carter will defend home turf as she attempts to take the series lead from Drew.
A heap of super-fast kids will be in attendance on Saturday, where the Civil Skill Junior Lites class is being held to ransom by talented NQ rider Zachary Watson, despite being chased by a slew of talented southern natives.
Aussie Champion Levi Rogers is riding a perfect streak in both the Corsair Vehicle Solutions 15 years 4 stroke class, and the Five Gloves Junior Lites 15 years 2-stroke class, and it’s certain he’ll be taking no prisoners at Kilcoy.
Riders will take to the track on Saturday for practice from 8 am with racing starting approximately 9 am on Saturday and Sunday. Gate entry prices are $10 for a family on Saturday, and $20 for a family Sunday.
