After the success of last year’s combination of Masters of Morgan Park with a round of the Australian Sidecar Championship, the Motorcycle Sportsmen of QLD are excited to announce that this exciting combination is once again happening, on May 19th and 20th.
This is only round two of the championship for 2018 so everything is still to play for and some exciting races are bound to happen. Round One for Formula 1 saw Howard Ford and Lee Menzies take out first place, with Jeff Brown and Darren Sheldrick in second, followed by Mick Alton and Chrissie Clancy in a close third.
The F2 class has the same close results following round 1 with Mick Alton and Chrissie Clancy leading here, followed closely by Damien Edis and Melanie Schluter, with Richard and Scott Goodale hot on their tails in third place.
With current Motorcycle Sportsmen club member and current F1 Australian Champion Dave Boughen making a comeback in round 2 all eyes will be on his unit with his new passenger – Robbie Shorter. Robbie Shorter is making the jump across the ditch from NZ to attend all rounds with Dave, Robbie has been racing in the World Championships. Match this with Dave’s experience and this is one unit that means business!
Last year saw 18 different sidecar units attend this round and put on a show for everyone. Over the years we have held a round of this championship on a few different occasions, and in the past this round was shared between WA and QLD. But since Barbagallo race track is still not open, we in QLD certainly won’t complain about getting to host this fantastic event again!
The sidecar community has given nothing but positive feedback to the motorcycle sportsmen on how last years meeting was run, and we hope to do even better this year!
With the Warwick District Sporting Car Club making continual upgrades and improvements to Morgan Park things can only get better! The question on everyone's mind is – can anyone beat the 7-year standing lap record for sidecars? Come and watch the action at Morgan Park May 19th + 20th. Free entry for spectators!
