Moreton District Motocross inc and Motorcycling Queensland have combined to celebrate the history of Tivoli Raceway in its final year, in an exciting event on the weekend of May 5 and 6.
Backed by Oliver’s Motorcycles and Husqvarna Motorcycles Australia, the two-part event sees the Tribute 2 Tivoli, as well as the Queensland Post Classic and Vets Motocross Championships, at the famous heart of motocross at Coal Road, Chuwar.
The venue has been the scene of many a ferocious handlebar-to-handlebar battle since its humble beginnings as a dirt track venue back in 1965.
Since then the hallowed soil has hosted at eight Australian Motocross and Junior Motocross Championships, three Australian Dirt Track Championships and eleven Mr Motocross series rounds.
This year will be Tivoli's 53rd and final year as a motorcycle racing venue, as the site is set to undergo development before the end of the year.
So this will be the perfect opportunity for anyone who has ever raced at Tivioli, to race one more time, take a last look, take in the displays, or talk to any of the stars of the past who will be there.
"We are inviting anyone who ever raced motocross or dirt track at Tivoli over those fifty-plus years to come and join us," says Event Organiser Kevin Mortimer, "and anyone with old bikes or memorabilia who would like to be a part of the display, please make contact with me."
Organisers have also announced the attendance of Tivoli motocross heroes of the past like James Deakin, David Armstrong, Glen Bell, Stephen Gall, Peter Boyle and announcer Bob Johnston.
Tivoli's demise is set to mark a new beginning also, as a new Motocross facility is currently planned in the Ipswich region.
The event takes place at Tivoli Raceway, Coal Rd. Chuwar on May 5/6.
