Yamaha Yamalube Off-Road Teammates Josh Green and Luke Styke led the
way as this year's Husky Sprint Series opener unfolded at a new venue at
Meringandan, west of Toowoomba.
The monsoonal rain that threatened stayed away, but the riders didn't -
over 200 of them making a record entry for recent years in the lead up to this
year's AORC kickoff in two weeks time at Gympie.
After a heavy three days of prep and two of the event itself, Event
coordinator David Wagner was tired but satisfied.
"I'm just glad to be back at work today! That was the longest five
days I've had in a while, but everyone was happy with the tracks. One of them
was a bit technical but on the whole everyone enjoyed it. One rider told me it
was the best fun he'd had for years."
Out on the track, Josh Green's double put him in a strong position in
the series, while former MX Pro Luke Styke's first race behind a headlight
sounded an ominous warning to the AORC regulars.
Likewise French rider Jeremy Carpentier's podium on the Saturday
indicated no shortage of pace, while Husqvarna team mates Lachy Stanford and
Fraser Higlett were in the thick of the action at all times, finishing 4,5
respectively on Saturday, and 3,4 on Sunday.
Back from Europe, Jess Gardiner took her Yamaha to the top spot on both
days, ahead of Tamara Gray on Saturday, and Ebony Nielsen on Sunday.
