Hunter Lawrence - I Want To Be World Champion

18-year-old Queenslander has unfinished business

Author: Media/Thursday, January 18, 2018/Categories: State News

At the tender age of 18, Hunter Lawrence is not just one of the brightest Aussie talents in international motocross, he's one of its brightest talents, period.
Last year his rookie MX2 season saw second places in the German, US and French GPs, and an impressive ride to the top MX2 slot at the Monster Energy FIM Motocross of Nations, that earned him the Ricky Carmichael Award for Best Young Rider.
Following in the footsteps of greats like Andrew McFarlane, Chad Reed and Brett Metcalfe, he'll go from Europe to the US; with a Geico Honda contract and US adventure waiting for him. For now though, his focus is on some unfinished business - becoming the first-ever Aussie World Motocross Champion before leaving Europe.

I ride a motorcycle because:
I can’t play ball sports or do anything else !!

The reason I compete aboard one is:
Because I love the feeling and the sport in general.

What I love about my bike is: Riding it

My discipline of motorcycle sport is motocross and the thing I love about it is:
The feeling you get from racing and winning

The biggest high I ever got from competition was:
At Teutschenthal 2017 when I got my first MX2 podium and my team mate and best friend was also on the podium as well we went 1, 2 for Suzuki - the first time ever in MX2.

My favourite track/place to compete is:

Matterly Basin, it is such an amazing track lay out!

The person who taught me the most about my sport is:
My Dad.

The people whose backing makes all the difference are:
My family, my team and all the people who support me.

Outside of my motorcycle life I spend my time:
Training to be better at motocross.

You might be surprised to know that I:
Really don’t like European weather.

This year my goals are:
To be World Champion in MX2.

The thing that I'll be focussing on the most is:
Being consistently good
