Presented by Club Laverda Qld Inc. (CLQ), CONCOURS 2017 is a static motorcycle display offering some 60 trophies and $2000 for the best machine entered on the day.
As such, it is the only event of its kind in Australia engaging exhibitors and motorcycle enthusiasts from the entire east coast.
CONCOURS’ major sponsor is Shannons Insurance supported by Penrite Oil, Brisbane Motorcycles, Ricondi, and some 25 minor sponsors.
CONCOURS judging is done by respected motorcycle enthusiasts from a variety of backgrounds including popular motorcycle journalism. The winner of Best in Show from last year will be a guest judge this year. The judges’ decision is final.
Again this year, the popular DYNO (courtesy of Motorcycle Mad, Brendale) is making an appearance at Concours with trophies offered for the most horsepower for machines under 750cc, over 750cc, and V-Twin machines.
CONCOURS 2017 at Cleveland will be the seventh event at Cleveland and the 29th annual Concours D’Elegance presented by CLQ – the result of the Story Bridge Concours (running for some 22 years) outgrowing the Kangaroo Point venue at Captain Burke Park.
A $10.00 gate fee applies to patrons over 15 years and includes on-site motorcycle parking. An additional $10.00 entry fee applies to enthusiasts wishing to enter their machines for judging and trophies and to be eligible for the $2000 prize for “Best in Show”. Machines entered for judging must be in running order.
The success of CONCOURS 2017 is assured providing the weather is fair. Should wet weather prevail the event will be postponed to a date to be set. Visit www.clublaverdaqld.com.au for information regarding postponement in the days prior to the event.
The event is alcohol free and as such is a family day raising funds for the Make a Wish Foundation. Over the past 13 years CLQ has given in excess of $85,000 to this worthy charity.
CONCOURS attracts motorcycle trade stalls (30 approx.), motorcycle enthusiast club displays (35 approx.), and motorcycle enthusiasts both local and interstate. Entertainment includes a wide variety of food vendors, free face painting, kiddie’s rides.
At midday a Make a Wish Foundation representative makes a speech introducing a Make a Wish recipient. At 2.30 trophy presentations for the actual Concours D’Elegance winners is conducted.
Interesting machines that will be seen at Concours this year will include; the Scorch Laverda race bikes; a rare Martini Yamaha XS1.1; the Ducati Club of Qld in celebrating 40 years of Ducati will be showing 40 different models of Ducati, one from each year of production.
This event is newsworthy, providing a positive spin on the motorcycling community. There will be ample opportunity for photos, video, and interviews with the “normal” motorcycling community.
