The VMX Magazine’s iconic event Classic Dirt

A Historic Event

VMX Magazine’s iconic event Classic Dirt first appeared on the calendar in 2000.  That first event, and the second, was held on a reserve in rural Victoria, at Kyneton.  The tracks were just pegged out in a field and everything was kept pretty simple.  The big drawcard though was the fact that it was a weekend without racing, a first on the vintage scene, it was just an event where you dragged your old bike out of the shed and rode it around for two days for as many or as few laps as you desired.

No racing, no politics, no drama, or, as the VMX slogan goes - same old dirt, same old bike, same old fun.

The event just grew and grew and moved locations a number of times.

Over the years, Classic Dirt has been held at Kyneton, Barrabool, Broadford, Raymond Terrace, Wallerawang and Conondale, where it is being held again this year for the 13th running of the event.

With each year and venue change, the event added more attractions and facilities, with the current event featuring two motocross tracks (pre

’78 and Pre ’90), vinduro loops, (easy and hard), flat track (grass), and, Trials sections.  There’s really something for everyone!  Add in all the other features of the event like a Show and Shine, onsite canteen and bar, a massive Trivia contest, Legends Laps, a live band on Saturday evening and quite often the appearance of an international Legend and you can see why the event has grown to become Australia’s biggest and best vintage and classic dirt bike event.  In past years the event has been graced by the likes of Joel Robert, Brad Lackey, Heikki Mikkola, Broc Glover, Jim Pomeroy and VMX Magazine columnist Rick ‘Super Hunky’ Sieman.

This year, with the help of the event’s primary sponsor, Husqvarna Australia, Husky Hero Chuck Sun is coming from the USA to join the fun.

So come along and see why this event is Australia’s finest, at Green Park, Conondale on the 9th to the 11th of June 2017.
