This November, more than 120 Rockhampton motocross enthusiasts will show their support for Queenslanders affected by cancer by hitting the Rockhampton & Districts Motocross Club for charity.
The inaugural Rocky Raiser – Do It For Cancer will be held on November 26-27 at the Rockhampton Motocross Club to raise vital funds for Cancer Council Queensland. Locals are invited to attend – as a rider or spectator – and take part in two days of races and fundraising activities.
Event organiser Debbie Dark said she was inspired to host the event to help support locals affected by cancer.
“I lost my dad to cancer this year and everyone gave us so much support,” she said.
“A lot of people have been affected by cancer in the club too so this is a way for us all to give back and make a difference.
“Motocross is like one big family – when something like cancer affects one of us, everyone is there for you.”
The two-day event will kick off on November 26 from 8am with practice rounds, followed by an afternoon of sprint racing and an evening barbeque. On Sunday morning, riders will take part in two rounds of racing before the event comes to a close at midday.
“It’s going to be a great weekend for everyone involved,” Ms Dark said.
“We encourage everyone to come down and support this cause.”
The event supports Cancer Council’s Do It For Cancer campaign, calling on Queenslanders to do what they can to support those affected by cancer.
Cancer Council Queensland spokesperson Katie Clift said everyone who takes part will make a vital difference in the fight against cancer.
“Community support helps us reach out to an estimated 1200 people who will be diagnosed with cancer in Central Queensland this year,” Ms Clift said.
“These funds support our work in cancer research, education and prevention programs, and patient support services.”
Queenslanders can race, work, sell, shave, quit, gift – or do anything. To register for ‘Do It For Cancer’, visit www.doitforcancer.com.au or call 1300 65 65 85.
