Motorcycling Queensland’s 2015 International Rider of the Year, Jemma Wilson has been busy coaching recreational riders at MQ-affiliated Trail Rides recently. Jemma lets us know how the coaching has been going:
I truly enjoy coaching. Seeing improvement in a rider is brilliant, and thanks to a new initiative by MQ I have had the opportunity to help out more than 80 riders in just two days! One day at Bell Bunya Trailride, and just last weekend at the Kia Ora Trailride.
It’s what I’ve started to call an introduction to coaching. I head out, and on the Saturday offer free one hour sessions to all trail ride attendees. Not just the kids - all are welcome. We then rotate through the groups over the day, and work on basic standing position, braking techniques and flat turns. In this trail ride setting, the riders then have the opportunity to head out onto the tracks and put into practice what they have learned!
I have heard nothing but positive responses from everyone, and appreciate how well the program has been received by those who run the trail rides and the riders themselves!
So if you’re heading to a trail ride keep an ear out at sign on because maybe there will be a coach there (it could be anyone as the program expands!) and we are working on a first in first served basis.
You might even be lucky enough to get to ride one of MQ’s fleet of Yamaha's, made possible thanks to a grant from the Gambling Community Benefit Fund.
