More than 2000 runners, cyclists, mountain bike riders and motorcycling enthusiasts, some as young as five-years-old, are expected to participate in what is anticipated to be the region’s biggest ever multi-disciplinary sporting event.

The Colliers International Run Ride Race for Research, to be held at Brisbane West Wellcamp on July 23, is raising funds for the Toowoomba-based It’s A Bloke Thing Foundation.

Colliers International Run Ride Race for Research spokesman Dan Dwan says he hopes the event will raise more than $50,000 for the prostate cancer charity.

“We are really excited to be able to host this event at Brisbane West Wellcamp Airport. It’s the perfect location to accommodate the needs of the cycling, running, mountain bike and motorcycle communities,” says Mr Dwan.

The one-day event will feature the Colliers International Open Kermesse event ($10,000 in prizemoney), the Motorcycle Trail Ride; (Pee Wee for children, Novice (15km) and Open (65km)), a 10km Trail Run, The Wellcamp Grand Fondo (80km or 118km) and the Cross Country MTB (4-5km cross country trail). The only event that will be held off site is the corporate bike ride (The Wellcamp Grand Fondo).

The Motorcycle Trail Ride participants will be ‘blazing’ through never before ridden terrain at the airport, Mr Dwan says.

““To get community support from these sporting disciplines is just fantastic. We are confident this will become an annual event,” he says.

2016 It’s A Bloke Thing chairman John Wagner says he hopes not only race participants but the wider community will support the event, which will also include a public entertainment precinct and corporate area.

“We (IABT) have already put funds back into our local community through the prostate cancer specialist nurse program and the QantasLink It’s A Bloke Thing Prostate Cancer Road Show.

“More than 3400 men died from prostate cancer in Australia last year. We are committed to helping find a cure,” says Mr Wagner.
