Cairns Motorcycle Club celebrated the completion of its track redevelopment last weekend (April 30 - May 1), and kicked off the first day of club racing in 2016.
Before racing started the official opening was attended by Club Patron and local Councillor John Schilling, and he and Club President David Liddle cut the ribbon to open the track.
The club was granted $100,000 from Cairns City Council of in kind assistance in 2015 and the track was totally transformed. The start gates were re-located, irrigation was installed and track changed to cater for all levels of riders from beginner to advanced.
Much work was done by the club’s Track Re-development Committee over many months. The club would like to thank all those involved especially the Cairns City Council and all the dedicated volunteers during this time.
Rain delayed the re-opening last month and again threatened to make conditions difficult, but held off long enough for the riders to experience the deep ruts and varied lines the new track offered.
Round 2 of the club championship will be in June and Cairns will also host Round 5 of the Tropical North Queensland weeks later, so there is plenty of racing coming up in Cairns to look forward to.
