Southern Downs Series ready for Round 2!

Southern Downs Series ready for Round 2!

Author: Media/Friday, April 01, 2016/Categories: State News

Round 2 of the Southern Downs Road Race Series will play out this weekend (April 2 – 3) at Morgan Park Raceway in Warwick - the host track for the five-round series.

With over 115 riders entered to compete, and a plenty of quality riders in all of the classes, this round is setup to produce plenty of top shelf racing.

Points are on the board from Round 1 and the class leaders will be looking to assert their authority, while the rest of the field aims to take over at the top. A good result here can go a long way toward a good result for the season, but consistency is important, a low points haul can make the rest of the season an uphill battle.

The ladies and gentlemen competing in the Formula 3 and Sidecar classes will be competing as part of the Queensland Road Race Championships, so expect them to be bringing their A game! There is nothing like having a state title on the line to encourage a rider to do their best.

Classes Competing at Round 2:

  • Formula 1 (Superbikes)
  • Formula 2 (Supersport)
  • Formula 3 (400cc and twin sport)
  • Formula 4 (Up to 500cc, pre 1995)
  • Formula 6 (Over 500cc, pre 2000)
  • Moto3/125GP
  • 250/300 Production
  • Supermoto
  • Sidecar
  • Club Racer (introductory class, open to all bikes)

The classes on offer at Round 2 give riders of a wide variety of machinery types and an opportunity to test their mettle on track. So give them a wave and if they have any energy left on their cool down lap they will try to wave back.

The Club Racer class has a good contingent of new faces this round, many of them will make their way into the championship classes as the season continues. The Motorcycle Sportsmen of Queensland enable riders to take the first steps to becoming racers with first time race for free offer, which will be run at all five rounds of the Pirelli Southern Downs Road Race Series. If you think you have what it takes, come out and talk to the officials or riders to see if racing interests you.

Spectator entry is free, so jump in the car or hop on a bike and drop out to Morgan Park Raceway. You are welcome to walk around the pits and meet the guys and girls that have a passion for racing. There is a canteen on site with great value food. Qualifying kicks off at 9am on Saturday morning, while racing commences after lunch, ending around 4pm. Sunday is racing all day from 8:30am till 4pm.

See you out there!
