Queensland Women’s Week took place on March 7 – 13, and Motorcycling Queensland jumped at the chance to celebrate the females that make up our sport.

As part of Women’s Week, MQ gave away free recreational, or discounted competition licences to women and girls who’d never had an annual Motorcycling Australia licence before. We’re pleased to announce that 71 ladies took up this offer, and we look forward to seeing these new riders out at our tracks.

Each day, MQ profiled one of the inspirational women that made up our sport, from riders to club administrators and more.

Day 1: Bek & Ali, the first all-girl female sidecar team (read here).
Day 2: Violet Jones, MQ’s newest Board member and founder of Nambour Indigenous Club (read here).
Day 3: Peggy Hyde, the first woman in the world to hold an open motorcycle racing licence (read here).
Day 4: Tracey Tunstall, MQ’s 2015 Volunteer of the year and founder of Kingaroy Junior Motorcycle Speedway Club (read here).
Day 5: Jemma Wilson, three times ISDE Champion with the Australian Women’s Team (read here).
Day 6: Debbie Douglas, Queensland Enduro Subcommittee member, and hardworking woman behind the Queensland Enduro scene (read here).
Day 7: Sarah Chivers, a successful young Trials rider who took out MQ’s 2015 Junior Moto-Trials Rider of the Year & Junior Female of the Year (read here).

Clubs also joined in the celebrations, with great discounts and offers at events held during Women’s Week.

The RXT Shell Sunshine State Series offered sunglasses donated by LKI to all female riders at the first round, and a few additional goodies.

Both Keppel Coast Dirt Bike Club and Mike Hatcher Junior Motorcycle Club offered free riding at their club days for all girls and women.

Females at the Maryborough Motorcyclists club day were offered free lunch, and girls riding in the McCosker Contracting Benaraby Sprint Series received a free JP Shirt thanks to Gladstone District Dirt Riders.

Queensland Vintage Motocross Club held the inaugural Yamaha Women’s Week Off-Road Coaching Day, and 52 females rocked up to receive coaching from some of the Queensland’s best riders and coaches – read an article on that event here.

All women who entered Women’s Week Events, or volunteered and officiated at these events, will be entered into draws to win Coles / Myer Giftcards and Free Annual Licence Vouchers. Winners will be released shortly.

Motorcycling Queensland would thanks to everyone who participated and put together Women’s Week activities, whether clubs, coaches, participants, volunteers or officials.
