State Supermoto Champs Play Out in Proserpine

The Shark Leathers Queensland Supermoto Championship finals were held on the weekend October 3 – 4 at Proserpine.

What an awesome weekend with the Seniors and Juniors battling it out.  Round 1 was at Mareeba on May 16 – 17, and on the weekend all classes had their motors revving to get the extra points to win the Championship.

The S2 class ( 450cc ) was filled with excitement-  Conner Matthews #29 had won Round 1 at Mareeba and the battle would continue with him and Andy McLeish #217.  The pressure was on as two brilliant riders battled it out for the Championship.

Andy McLeish this year came second at the Australian Supermoto Championship at Newcastle. So Conner Matthews knew he had to keep the pressure on, and that he did. It was nail biting to the end, one mistake from either could make the difference in the Championship.

The final race was the decider leaving Conner Matthews just four points behind McLeish,  giving him Second Place for the Queensland Supermoto Championships 2015.

17 year old Conner Matthews only started racing Supermoto in June last year as a Junior, with his second race being the Australian Supermoto Championship, where he came second in his class.  Last September, Conner raced the last round of the Queensland Supermoto Championships as a Senior winning the S3 class ( 250cc ) and placing 4th in the S2 class (450cc) for that round.

It’s awesome to see that just a year later, Conner has moved up to second in the S2 class.

Conner Matthews says the last year has been “one hell of a ride”.

“Huge thanks to Wayne and Troy Leonard from Wayne Leonard Motorcycles in Cairns, Spent Clothing and Color Studio for their continued support this year,” says Matthews.

“Please support these businesses.”
