Southern Downs Round 4 Recap

Author: Media/Friday, August 07, 2015/Categories: State News

Round Four of the Pirelli Southern Downs Road Race Series was a standout for the incredible weather, and also for some of the hottest racing competition this year (August 1 – 2).

Formula 2 saw three of Australia's best 600cc Supersport riders duke it out over four rounds. Kane Burns, Callum Spriggs and Troy Guenther all turned up with their A game. It was not just race wins they were hunting… Aiden Wagner’s lap record was on notice.

Kane Burns struck first by claiming the win and the lap record in race two. Race three may have been won by Kane, however it would be third place finisher Troy Guenther that would take the honour of the lap record. Callum Spriggs managed to take the final race win, but Kane Burns put in a scorching 1:16.494, to shave another 0.013 off Troy Guenther's best. The level of talent displayed by the three was a sensation to behold.

While the Formula 2 competitors were breaking records, the fantastic weather proved a boon for many riders, with plenty of riders setting new personal best times and improving their riding. It was not just the racers enjoying the perfect conditions, the club held a parade during the lunch break on Sunday. It was fantastic for non racers to get to do a lap of the track on their road registered motorcycles. Morgan Park Raceway is quite technical and it’s difficult to understand exactly what the riders face from behind the fence. With such a fantastic turn out for the parade and with all participants behaving it’s certainly an opportunity the club will continue to run.

Results for Round Four saw a couple of new faces taking a round win, congratulations to Luke Cooper who claimed both his first race win and his first round win in Formula 1 with a win and three second place finishes.

Kane Burns claimed his second round win of 2015 with three wins and a second place in Formula 2. Anthony Carroll dominated his classes with four wins in both Formula 3 and Formula 4.

Richard Farquharson opened his race victory account with a win and threeseconds to claim his first Formula 6 round win of 2015.

Sarah Fairbrother kept it upright and took four wins in the Moto3/125GP class on her return from injury. Simon Dickson continues unbeaten in the 250/300 Production class for 2015.

Brad Trivitt continued the Supermoto tradition in 2015 of a different round winner every round thanks to his three wins and a third place.

2015 Queensland Sidecar Champions David Boughen & Lok O’Kane showed they know how to ride a sidecar around around Morgan Park Raceway. Buoyed from taking a pair of race wins in the Australian Championships in May, they continue to turn up to every round with raw speed and compliment it with superb presentation and faultless mechanical preparation.

Once again the Motorcycle Sportsmen of Queensland’s amazing crew of volunteers and flag marshals put on a flawless meeting! Without a top team running the meeting there is no way the riders could push to the absolute limits and display the sensational racing that this meeting was graced by.
