Chinchilla Motocross Club hosted Round Two of the Motocross Interclub Challenge between Toowoomba, Chinchilla and Tivoli on July 12.

The Chinchilla committee took the opportunity to include the event as a Fundraiser for recently passed away dedicated club member, husband and father, Travis Mitchell.

Over 300 campers rolled in the gates on Saturday, coming together for a camp oven, dinner and drinks, and a meeting and greeting of members and riders of surrounding clubs. The atmosphere was rewarding of all efforts.

Sunday morning unfolded with 250 eager riders ready to participate in honour of Travis and to accumulate points for their club. A full grid of 40 Veteran riders/dads hit the starts gates roaring, and what an action packed day of racing it was.

World Champion brothers, Hunter and Jett Lawrence and Team Yamaha riders, the Latimer brothers (Ricky and Lochie) had a rip-roaring time on the new track; “we will be back for sure.”

Families enjoyed the exciting atmosphere of the racing, but appreciated the push to encourage the sport to be more family-orientated.

The Chinchilla committee says the sport is fun for everyone and there is more to Motocross than just racing.

“From this weekend, we hope the friends made and family fun times had are cherished and more events like this happen in other clubs,” says the club

“We want everyone to see the true family fun sport motocross is, and hope you too want to get involved.”

The club is always looking for fresh blood and there are plenty of ways to get involved.

As the racing was finishing up, The Travis Mitchell feature race (thanks to Chinchilla Finke Team) was announced to everyone, which included the overall top five riders of each senior class. The 15 min moto had everyone in the crowd standing as Travis’ wife Naomi waved the checkered flag to finish the day.

The club sincerely thanks the community and volunteers for their contribution towards the event. Without all the kindhearted local members and businesses volunteering their time and donating towards the event, it would be impossible to achieve the outcome.

We hope everyone enjoyed the day, and stay tuned, the committee has some exciting events up their sleeves in the near future.

Club President, Cameron Jenner thanks all who got involved in the event.

“We could not be prouder of the achievement and funds raised for the Mitchell Family and we feel this was the true definition of Community,” he says.
