The Keppel Coast Dirt Bike Club (KCDBC) have almost completed diversifying their venue to transform the Coastal Park Motocross Track into a multi complex facility to host Enduro-X on August 22. Promoter Paul Warr lets us know what’s to be expected of the new track:
The Keppel Coast venue will come alive in August for the first annual Yeppoon Enduro-X, which has been more than six months in the making.
KCDBC has always been a Motocross club, however with the changing times in our sport, and a venue which lends itself beautifully to spectators, it's time to think differently. We want to promote the two disciplines of Motocross and Enduro-X, whilst strengthening the club by getting spectators to the sport and our club.
Every effort has been made to achieve maximum spectator enjoyment and the track will include a spectator infield, race commentators and up close action. The KCDBC are passionate to set the standard for Enduro-X in Central Queensland and keep the momentum of the concept and growth of Enduro-X in Australia alive.
We have paid particular attention to building a world class standard track, using only quality materials within the track and will be a showcase to spectators and a whole bunch of fun times for riders. The track will include deep sand pits, watered 10m rock sections, 10m of rock pools replicating creeks, a number of log matrix and major log features , mining tyre obstacles, tyre walls, tyre doubles, whilst including MX track sections of berms, chicanes, whoops, ski jumps and step ups, just to name a few.
The ‘fully watered’ dust-free track is 1200m in length and comprises of 570m of Enduro-X obstacles and around 630m of fast flowing MX track, which offers a great, action-packed mix and will allow riders to get their breath between the busy Enduro-X sections. No less than 100 forestry logs, 5 truck loads of rock, 21 large mine truck tyres, 15 scraper tyres and 15 cubic metres of sand have been put in place already and the track is nearing completion within the next few weeks. Any areas of track that was not the existing MX track is currently being blended with a loamy material to achieve maximum rider enjoyment.
Our local club is recovering from Cyclone Marcia which crossed the coast at Yeppoon as a category 5 earlier this year In February, and we have been working overtime to rebuild the track and facilities. Considering the damage was to the point the army spent a week at the track with chainsaws just to clear the track, things are well and truly back on the mend and going full steam ahead towards the event. We have been receiving great local support from a number of business and valued sponsors.
The first of its kind in the Central Queensland area and possibly Australia, the facility and track design has allowed a permanently erected Enduro-X track to be built as a "track within a track" and can be easily switched between Enduro-X and MX, with the switching of a few tyre corners like a train track switch block within minutes. After the event the track will be able to be opened for practice days for either Enduro-X or Motocross and even coaching days and training camps for both MX and EN.
With entries filling up daily, we have a number of well classed riders nominating and showing support to the event including local CQ riders who have competed in the National Enduro-X series and AORC over the past two years such as, Blake Hall, Jack Williams, Jaymie Warr, Scott Holland and Jack Orgill. Higher level riders Kane Hall, Melissa Bruce, Fraser Higlett and Ruben Chadwick have already confirmed their attendance, just to name a few. CQ rider Andrew Jefferies is nominated for the event, following his second Red Bull Romaniacs campaign (read his story here
We have a special guest Robert Nowak in attendance to ride the event and conduct 2 x 1 Day coaching clinics with Jason Rice and the team at Just Right Motorcycle Coaching, which is a great boost to the talent levels in the local area.
