The Queensland government has opened applications for the new Young Athletes Travel Subsidy. This program replaces the Young Athletes Assistance Program (YAAP).

The new travel subsidy will provide an allocation of funding that better reflects the costs associated with competing at state, national and international competitions.  Eligible athletes and officials will be able to apply for assistance for attendance at one eligible event at each of the three tiers, once every two calendar years. Please see the attached fact sheet for more details.

The following funding is available for each tier of competition:
•    $200 for state or state school events
•    $400 for national or national school events
•    $600 for international events.

Applicants who have submitted an application for a national or international event held since 16 December 2014 will be reimbursed the additional amount available under the new program. The department has been in touch with these families to provide further information regarding this process.

In an effort to make it easier for athletes and officials to apply for the travel subsidy, the department is trialling an online application system.  Verification of the attending athletes and officials will be an integral part of the online system.  Departmental officers will be contacting you over the coming weeks to discuss the manner in which this will be completed, and opportunities to make it an easier process for applicants and their coaches and managers to certify attendance.
